All American 921 All-American 21-1/2-Quart Pressure Cooker/Canner
This heavy-duty pressure cooker's large capacity is probably best utilized for canning (though it would also be great for a number of cooking tasks). A pressure cooker is generally recommended when canning vegetables and nonacid fruit, since the high heat that can be generated will kill more bacteria than a regular hot water bath. Made from cast aluminum, with sturdy screws to seal the lid to the pot, this pressure cooker requires no rubber or plastic gaskets or rings. Its 21-1/2-quart capacity holds 19 pint jars or 7 quart jars. A three-setting pressure regulator valve is included, and the pressure gauge gives a clear reading. Made in Wisconsin, this is an American classic. --Julija Gelazis

What to Look For in a Pressure Cooker

What to Look For in a Pressure Cooker

Pressure Cooker

You have probably heard a lot about pressure cookers, and perhaps even wondered what they are and how they differ from other small kitchen appliances. A pressure cooker is a pot with a lockable lid that has the ability to quickly cook foods. Food ingredients are placed into the pressure cooker pot along with  water, and as the water boils - steam builds up and it creates an intense pressure that cooks food faster than traditional methods. You can cook just about anything in a pressure cooker, from meats, to vegetables and stews as well.

There's so much to consider when purchasing a pressure cooker, we've compiled a list of some of the more important things to look for in a new pressure cooker:

1. Electric vs Stove top: The first thing you will need to decide is whether you want an electric pressure cooker or a stove top cooker. Surprisingly, stove top cookers are considered the better choice between the two. Electric models are  typically fitted with pot inserts made with aluminum. This makes it harder to brown certain ingredients. Also, the aluminum material may also react to certain acidic ingredients causing them to be a little off in their flavor.

2. Safety Features: Safety features are going to be especially important for this type of appliance. Pressure cookers build up an intense amount of pressure and steam which can cause an explosion in the kitchen. If you have children in the home, you will want a pot that comes with secure lid locks, pressure indicators and release valves.

3. Size and Capacity: You can find pressure cookers that can hold more than 40 quarts, but do you really need all of that? Probably not. Don't underestimate your size and don't overestimate it either. You can find cookers that are sauce pan style, which is perfect for your side dishes and vegetables, there are also large stock pot styles for family meals.

4. Stainless Steel or Aluminum?: As mentioned earlier, the aluminum materials used in fitted inserts can clash with acidic ingredients, causing them to have a flavor different than you may have intended. If you are going to make the investment into a quality cooker, opt for the stainless steel models.

Pressure cookers can really be a lifesaver for the busy family, they will also help save you a ton of money.

Psilocybe cubensis, ache B+ (Magic Mushrooms), my aboriginal grow

Psilocybe cubensis, ache B+ (Magic Mushrooms), my aboriginal grow On YouTube.

Psilocybe cubensis, strain B+ Sorry for the bad video quality, it´s made with a real cheap webcam. It´s my first grow and I´m happy that I didnt have any problems with mold spores or bacterias. The substrat is based on brown rice flour and vermiculite, no pressure cooker used for killing mold spores or bacterias just set it on a stove for 90 min that´s it. The B+ strain seems to yield in many small mushrooms but I really like that more than just a few big ones. At this point Ive made this video I think I will harvest them at the end of the day or tomorow in the morning. They really look yummy, what do you think ? :) I really like the one cluster of 29 (I think I counted 29 or 30) shrooms.

How Does Air Conditioning Work?

How Does Air Conditioning Work?

Pressure Cooker

How often do you drive past a home or other building and notice the air conditioner? Probably never, unless it is a window air conditioner that looks like it doesn't belong there. True air conditioning means not only controlling the temperature, but reducing the humidity and purifying the air. Air-cooling is simply forcing cool or cold air into a room, space or building. For the purpose of this article, the terms will be interchangeable. The simplest way to describe it works is the same way your refrigerator keeps food cold.

That would be a fair enough explanation, if you know how a refrigerator keeps things cool. You do know that almost everyone has a refrigerator. You know they make a very quiet noise every few minutes. You know things stay cold and fresh longer. The refrigerator isn't that complex. It circulates a refrigerant through a system of coils. The noise you hear is a compressor. The compressor compresses the gas refrigerant into a liquid. The liquid then moves through the coils and absorbs heat. We will go into greater detail shortly.

Many homes have air conditioner units in the back or side yard. Some have the window air conditioner, which is effective for cooling a smaller area. Office buildings and other larger buildings have the units on the roof or in large metal structures containing a system.

No matter what the size or the shape, most all air conditioners function the same way. As we said, it works essentially the same as your refrigerator. The principal is evaporation. Both the refrigerator and the air conditioner unit use a refrigerant that, in its normal state, is a gas. The gas may be one of several types or composition, but it is commonly referred to as Freon. The process of cooling the inside of a refrigerator, or for an air conditioner to cool a building space, is a cycle.

The first piece of the air conditioning system is the compressor. The compressor does just that, it compresses the refrigerant gas. The process makes the refrigerant become hot and, of course, under pressure. The now hot gas circulates through coils on the outside of the refrigerator or building and dissipates the heat. The heat dissipating cools the refrigerant gas back into a liquid. After the refrigerant becomes a liquid it goes through another piece of the system called an expansion valve. Running through the expansion valve produces evaporation and the refrigerant becomes cold and at low pressure. The cold gas continues through the interior of the refrigerator or building via coils. The cold, low-pressure refrigerant attracts and absorbs heat inside a refrigerator. In an air conditioner, a fan propels the cold air throughout the area or building. The cycle starts then all over again.

There is little doubt that most people look at air conditioning and air cooling as a welcome miracle. It is a simple process of converting a refrigerant gas to a hot liquid under pressure, then changing it to a low pressure-cooling agent to absorb heat; keeping us and our food cool.
